Bouncer / Relay Programs

Bouncers / relays are general terms for a program that allows you to connect to a service such as IRC via another host. A bouncer in reality does nothing more then divert / forward your network traffic. This allows you to mask your ip/host on the destination service. The program is required to be installed on the host that you would be connected via.

There are many programs that will perform this function, some are basic and do not allow much flexibility on IRC, while others will allow you to perform a greated range of tasks like "detaching" yourself from IRC.

bnc - The orginal irc proxy, pretty basic stuff and no permanent IRC connection. Simple but a no-frills bnc program.

dirproxy - Seems pretty simplistic, but allows you to detach/resttach to a session.

ezbounce - A fairly long standing bnc program, very functional and can be customised.

muh - Simple yet functional, will maintain an IRC connection for you while your offline.

psybnc - Psybnc seems very popular, allows a large range of options, but uses that much more system resources also.

ZNC - Bnc software with fairly active development and supports detahced clients, ipv6 and c++ modules amongst many other features.

shroudBNC - A modular IRC proxy written in C++. It is capable of proxying IRC connections for multiple users. Using TCL scripts it can be extended.
